How to do the Perfect Oil Pulling Routine with Holistic Hemp’s Coconut Oil

Improving your oral health can be a costly, and sometimes painful process. Expensive mouthwashes burn, and a large amount of toothpastes rely upon harsh abrasives, which can harm enamel and leave you more susceptible to cavities. Fortunately, there is an all-natural solution that can lead to whiter teeth, better breath, and stronger gums. Oil pulling is a natural way to cleanse your mouth of toxins and improve your overall oral health. For bonus health benefits, we suggest trying an oil pulling routine with our Coconut Oil.

What is Oil Pulling?

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that dates back to ancient India,  and has been practiced in holistic healing cultures for over 5,000 years. It has powerful detoxifying effects, and reduces plaque buildup as well as fights gingivitis. In 2009, an Indian study confirmed that oil pulling is an effective method for reducing plaque and fighting cavities. It also found that oil pulling reduces the number of bad oral bacteria that cause tooth decay.

Why Oral Pulling?

Oral pulling offers a painless, all-natural method to clean your mouth and improve your overall oral health. Mouthwash can irritate gums and harm cheeks, and has been shown to cause severe chemical burns. There are multiple reported incidents of allergic reactions brought on by using mouthwash, and ingesting it has caused serious illness and death.

Meanwhile, oil pulling has no such negative side effects, and has survived the test of time as an effective oral cleaning technique. If you want to avoid harmful chemicals, and potential painful reactions, we think you should try oil pulling.

How to do the Perfect Oil Pulling Routine

The great thing about oil pulling is that you don’t have to go to an oral healthcare specialist for treatment. Instead, you simply need a bottle of your favorite vegetable based oil.

Additionally, we advise doing your oil pulling routine as soon as you wake up, and on an empty stomach. Be sure to schedule 5 – 15 minutes for your oil pulling routine, since it takes at least 5 minutes of swishing to be fully effective.

Step 1. Gently warm 1 – 2 teaspoons of Holistic Hemp Coconut oil, but do not microwave, until it reaches a liquid state. You can hold the sealed container under warm, running water in order to do so.  If you don’t have coconut oil, simply use your favorite vegetable based oil.

Step 2.  Swish in your mouth for at least 5 minutes. You can swish up to 20 minutes at a time, however, those new to oil pulling routines often start small, and work their way up to 20 minutes.

Step 3. Spit into a trashcan. It’s important to spit your used oil into a trashcan, so that you avoid clogging up your sink’s plumbing. Oil can easily clog pipes, so dispose your oil outside of a drain.

Step 4. Rinse out your mouth with warm salt water. This helps naturally clear your mouth of any remaining oil.

Step 5. Brush your teeth. Oil pulling routines aren’t complete substitutes for cleaning your teeth with a toothbrush, but instead, improves your overall oral health alongside brushing your teeth.  Brushing your teeth will help you remove any remaining blemishes and tartar.

When used in combination with a healthy brushing routine, oil pulling can help you fight the factors causing cavities and gingivitis.
